Don’t Leave Your Car Out of Your Spring Cleaning

Once you’ve done your usual car clean up–cleaning trash out, vacuuming the interior, and taking it through the car wash–here’s some extra refreshing tips to keep your vehicle looking good and operating safely.

An important part of your vehicle’s spring refresh is its maintenance. A change in season is the perfect time to check up on your regular maintenance.

  • Oil, coolant, and windshield wiper fluids are all essential to your car’s safe operation. Check your fluid levels as the seasons change and top them off if needed.
  • With temperatures rapidly changing in our fluctuating midwestern springs, keep an eye on your tire pressure so that you stay in your vehicle’s optimal range.
  • Check in with your tires–look for any damage or debris, uneven wear, and check that your tread isn’t too low.

Your local automated car wash is great, but after a long Iowan winter, you might want to put in a little extra elbow grease.

  • Salt and grime tend to build up on a vehicle’s undercarriage, where you might not think to clean.
  • Before deciding to replace your headlights, check to see if they can be cleaned. The cloudiness can be removed with home remedies like toothpaste or vinegar and baking soda.
  • Waxing your car protects the paint and shine of your vehicle. Experts recommend you wax your car every three months, as the seasons change. A spring wax ahead of the muddy spring weather will keep your car looking better in the long-run.
  • Don’t forget to check your emergency kit. It might be time to replace or restock your flashlight batteries!
  • Now is a great time to check your vehicle’s paint. Scratches and chips happen to everyone, and can be easy to overlook during a harsh winter. As soon as you notice any paint damage, you should make plans to repair it as soon as you can to prevent rust.

If you do find any damage to your paint job, Graham Collision’s technicians are always happy to help. Make an appointment online or over the phone, or even stop by for a walk-in so we can get you back on the road and looking good.
